EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an integrative psychotherapy approach utilizing dual-attention in processing traumatic memories and beliefs about oneself connected to those memories in decreasing the level of distress associated with the trauma. As an EMDR-trained therapist, I am able to utilize this approach to therapy when clinically appropriate.
Daughters of Narcissistic Mothers
I have a deep understanding of the impact of Material Narcissism. I have experience working with the overt and covert abuse experienced by children of narcissistic parents; Especially daughters struggling with the impact of their mother's narcissistic traits while simultaneously trying to figure out how to navigate that relationship.
I have received certification in the 5-step Recovery Model for Adult Children of Narcissistic Parents by Dr. Karyl McBride author of Will I Ever Be Good Enough, Healing the Daughter of Narcissistic Mothers. The emotional neglect and abuse experienced by adult children of narcissistic parents often goes unidentified and yet the impact is so profound. We live in a culture that is often not open to acknowledging hurtful behaviors of mothers and is shaming toward those who talk about it. Working with a therapist who has specific knowledge of this issue and who can offer you validation, support, and openness to exploring the impact of the relationship with your parent(s) can be a important part to the healing process.
